Positive Thoughts During Financial Turmoil

During tough times it is easy to feel like you are all alone. That no one else understands or is there to help. Especially when that tough time is financial. So here are some positive thoughts during financial turmoil to help you through. To remind yourself (and myself) that you are not alone. There are others who have been through this. It is possible to get out of debt.

To Remember

  • This is only temporary
  • Talk to your bank – See if there are cheaper accounts, ways to consolidate debt, money back plans etc.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for help – from friends and family, the bank, government
  • It is possible to get out of debt, no matter how much you’re in, or how little you make.
  • Today is never too late to start – to start saving – to change how you spend – to start a budget
  • Money does not have to be as scary as math
  • It’s not your avocado toast or daily coffee breaking the bank. – It’s the big purchases, done alone that are.
  • Consider getting a roommate (or two). Remember, it’s only temporary!
  • You can share a vehicle with your partner, your roommate or family member. Ask for help!
  • You don’t need the fastest internet or fanciest phone – even if it seems cheap monthly – it’s not!
  • Those monthly subscription boxes (you don’t need them right now) and gym membership you never use? Ditch em!
  • Family and friends will understand if you can’t afford the “best” on the holidays
  • It may seem hard now. It’ll make things 100x better in the long run!

Financial struggle is normal

Whether it’s student debt, credit card debt or bankruptcy. Financial struggle is a normal part of life and happens to everyone. Even those most successful! A lot of the time, the most successful people had to hit rock bottom before working their way to the top.

I’ve spent weeks sleeping in my car before finding someones couch to crash on. I’ve felt the pinch of eviction before taxes came in and I had just enough for first and last.

It’s normal, and it’s temporary. There will struggle, there will be tears. Sometimes you have to work that shitty job no one wants for WAY less money than it’s worth. Remember, it’s only temporary. Besides, it’s easier to find a job when you have a job they say!

Don’t be afraid to ask for help. There are tons of resources online and phone apps to start that budget! Till then, I hope these positive thoughts during financial turmoil are enough to get you by. To remind you, you are not alone.
